  2. SPOILER ALERT

The Open Window: summary with spoilers

The open window is a story about an ill man, Framton Nuttel, who moves to a new town looking for peace and health and doesn’t know anyone there.
His sister had given him a list with the people in town who seemed nice and could have a good realtionship with her brother so Framton went to visit one person from that list. He didn’t have a clue who she was except for her name: Mrs Sappleton.
In the house, he was welcomed by the woman’s niece, Vera, who told him a story about why they had a wide-open window in October.
The Young lady told Framton that it was open because Mrs. Sappleton had been waiting for his family to come back from hunting for three years, making her aunt seem crazy.
Then Mrs. Sappleton came into the room, talked with Framton Nuttel for a while and, after that, Mrs. Sappleton’s family, followed by their dog, walked in through the window, they looked like they had been hunting. Fromton got really scared, took his stuff and left the house as quickly as he could.
Vera tells another fake story to her family to justify Framton’s horror, she said that he had had a traumatic experience with dogs.
In the last sentence of the story we realize that Vera is a really good liar.
